Why we recommend the 6" + 3" combination
Instead of asking one solid piece of latex to provide both underlying support and surface comfort, the two-layer design lets each piece do its own job. You choose the density of the 6" mattress for support, then choose the density of the 3" topper for comfort and pressure relief.

How pricing works: the 6" mattress and 3" topper are priced individually because you choose the density of each piece separately. The price range above is simply the combined total of those two components — it is not a separate mattress or package price. Once we find the combination that feels best for you, we’ll confirm the exact total before ordering.
Why keep the layers separate? In addition to choosing the feel of each layer independently, the separate pieces can be rotated and flipped individually. Years down the road, you can also replace or refresh one component without necessarily replacing the entire mattress system.

Best for
Adding a little extra cushioning and pressure relief without dramatically changing the overall feel or height of your existing mattress. For greater contouring and a more substantial comfort layer, we generally recommend the 3" topper.
Building a new latex mattress? For our recommended Dunlop Green Latex setup, we pair the 6" latex mattress with a 3" topper. The 2" topper is better suited to customers looking for a lighter comfort adjustment to an existing mattress.

The foundation of our recommended setup
The 6" mattress provides the underlying support in our recommended latex sleep system. For most sleepers, we pair it with a separate 3" Super Soft or Soft topper, allowing the support underneath and surface comfort above to be selected independently.
Choosing the 6" mattress on its own? Absolutely. Some sleepers prefer the feel of the solid 6" latex mattress without an additional comfort layer. During a mattress trial, we can have you try the 6" mattress both on its own and with a 3" topper so your body can tell us which configuration feels best.

Why choose 8"?
The 8" mattress is a great option when additional bed height is useful — whether for easier getting in and out of bed, accommodating a deeper bed frame, or simply creating the proportions and finished height you prefer in your bedroom.
Want the extra height with a separate comfort layer? The 8" mattress can also be paired with our 3" Super Soft or Soft topper to create a taller 11" latex sleep system. This keeps the supportive mattress and surface comfort layer separate while providing additional overall bed height.
How the 8" mattress is made: Our Dunlop latex cores are produced in 6" depths. To create the 8" mattress, an additional 2" layer of Dunlop latex is bonded to the 6" core before the finished mattress is enclosed in its 8" Organic Cotton cover.
8" Latex Mattress Pricing

Understanding Latex Firmness
ILD & Density Ratings of Dunlop Latex
ILD and density are two different ways of describing how latex feels and performs. ILD measures how much force is needed to compress the latex, while density describes how much material is packed into a given volume.
The important bit
Higher numbers generally mean firmer, denser latex — but natural latex is not manufactured like perfectly uniform synthetic foam, so some variation in ILD is completely normal.

One more thing: firmer does not automatically mean more supportive. Your body weight, sleeping position and the layers above or below the latex all affect how a mattress feels — which is exactly why we encourage customers to try the different densities before choosing.
