Got a Hot Head in the Family?
Don’t we all… 😅

Meet your cool-headed hero: the Kouchini Australian Organic Wool Pillow — naturally temperature regulating and fully adjustable thanks to a zippered organic cotton cover. That means you can add or remove fill to create your perfect cloud (or cannonball, if that’s your vibe).

Filled with the world’s finest Australian wool, this pillow keeps you cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and comfy always. The breathable cover adds a luxurious finish to an already dreamy setup.

Feeling sleepy yet? We thought so.

Pillow Talk, But Real:
Natural fibres like latex, wool, and down (even the synthetic ones — and yes, sometimes husbands) can have a faint scent when new. It’s totally normal and usually fades with time. Think of it as the “new pillow smell.” Not harmful, not forever — just part of the natural charm.

A gentle airing out should do the trick. And while we love a fresh start, a little whiff isn’t considered a flaw — so we don’t accept returns for scent alone.

Thanks for understanding the beauty of the natural world — even when it’s a bit… fragrant. 🌿

Need more fluff? We’ve got 1lb / 500g refill bags ready for topping up or DIY pillow projects.

Description

The Kouchini organic wool pillow  is designed for the perfect nights sleep. Encased in an organic cotton cover, filled with one of the worlds best Australian wool. Keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

I’m feeling sleepy already.

Re-fluffing your wool pillow?

Why yes, you can place your wool pillow in the dryer with a damp hand cloth and tumble dry on ‘hot’ for 5-10 minutes. The steam released from the hand towel will help revitalize the wool knops inside your pillow. Make sure the hand towel is not too wet and make sure to not dry it too long or the dryer will shrink the wool knops and reverse your intentions – unless you are making a pillow for a mouse.

Cleaning your wool pillow?

Wool self cleans by wicking moisture and odours and evaporating them. You do not need to clean your pillow too often. You can air your pillow out on a nice summer day and let the UV rays clean for you. Careful not to leave in direct sunlight or it will bleach the fabric.

If you are keen to clean, unzip the cover and remove the loose wool knops – we recommend storing them in a pillowcase or the bag your pillow came in to keep it safe. Launder the cotton cover in the machine and refill with the wool again.

You can also, in Lukewarm water and mild wool-safe detergent, hand wash the entire pillow in a laundry tub. Gently squeeze but do not agitate the wool inside.  Once rinsed, you can place in your washing machine on a ‘spin’ cycle to remove the excess water. You can then  put it in a dryer on hot for 5 minutes. Remove and allow to air dry.

Okay, so why does my pillow smell?

Lanolin is a natural wax produced by the sebaceous glands of sheep that helps to waterproof and protect their wool coats from the elements.

Most wool will go through a process of shearing, cleaning, and spinning to extract the lanolin and other impurities. The bleaching and chemical process (which would sterilize and remove the smells, and make the pillow no longer organic) is NOT performed to these pillows. If you are sensitive to the natural smell, you can perform the above mentioned airing process, or apply a pillow protector to silence the smell…

Lucky for us, these pillows are oh so pure and organic. With this authentic 4D experience, it’s like you’re there, with the sheep, sleeping under the stars in Australia: how magical!

Refill bags

We have been getting many questions about the refill bags. What does 1lb of wool look like anyway? How many bags does it take to fill a King pillow? Is it more economical to buy another pillow or a bunch of refill bags?

This sounds like those horrible maths questions we use to get in school. I swore then I’d never need algebra in adult life, yet here we are. So, if Susie stuffs her King pillow to the brim with wool, how many 1lbs bags of wool does Susie use?

Here are some pictures of the 1lbs refill bags provided by Kouchini:

and here’s a lovely picture of what’s inside (jump scare):

Each pillow may fluctuate slightly in weight. We estimate that a King pillow (20″ x 36″) has about 2.7lbs of wool inside. Susie therefore used 2.7 bags (3 bags purchased) of refill… give or take.

Well done Susie.

Now if a refill bag is $39.98 and we need 3 to fill a King pillow = that would cost $119.94 before tax (not including a King pillowcase shell). A king pillow preeee stuffed is $85.98. What were you thinking Susie?
